Early Childhood Intervention

During the early years of life, children develop the capacity to experience and manage both positive and negative emotions, to build relationships and to learn. Healthy social and emotional development during this time provides a foundation for later success in life.

The therapists at Squirrel Hill Psychological Services provide training and support for preschools and daycare centers. Our goal is to support you as you help the children in your care to develop appropriate social and emotional foundations to support their continued growth.

How We Help

  • We equip your staff with the knowledge and tools they need to understand and address the social and emotional needs of young children.
  • On-site observation and/or training and support of staff ensures early identification and response at the first sign of difficulty.
  • We provide direct intervention (counseling, consultation), working with children and their parents to address behavior problems, as well as links to services and opportunities from which they may benefit.

Meet the People We Help

  • A Squirrel Hill Psychological Services therapist who specializes in children's issues spends time in all of the Jewish Community Center preschool classrooms during the beginning of the new school year in order to observe the students and identify potential concerns.
