Growing Together Support Group with special film screening - February

At this month's Growing Together Support Group we will have a free screening of the film, "A Place for All: Faith & Community for Persons with Disabilities. Linda Marino along with Terry Feinberg-Steinberg of the Agency for Jewish Learning, will host this engaging film. All are welcome!

You’re invited to share information, resources and stories with other families at Growing Together, a professionally-facilitated support group for family members of adults with special needs.

At our monthly meetings you’ll learn how to access valuable services and programs…and find compassionate support, reassurance and inspiration.

Growing Together is facilitated by Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JF&CS) resource coordinator Linda Marino, who has more than 25 years of experience in special needs information & referral, service coordination and advocacy. She is the parent of an adult child with special needs.

Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at Jewish Family & Children's Service, 5743 Bartlett Street, Squirrel Hill.

We all know older adults who unmistakably experience mental decline as they grow older, but studies show it is not necessarily inevitable. That’s why JF&CS developed our Brain Builders Club.
Now in our second year, Brain Builders is an eight-week program, with classes held twice a week. Class participants engage in computer skills training, creative writing and Tai Chi stretching exercises each class.

To be eligible for Brain Builders, participants must meet the following criteria:
• Age 65-85
• Have own transportation to JF&CS for classes
• Able to do moderate physical exercise
• Commitment to full eight-week program

Multiple Sclerosis Support Group - February

For the last 20 years on the second Sunday of each month, individuals (those living with MS and also their caregivers) come together to listen to and help one another. They share helpful tips for maneuvering through the health care system and discuss the latest breakthroughs in medications, pain management and the day-to-day challenges of living with MS.

Claire Burbea, a licensed clinical social worker in JF&CS’s Squirrel Hill Psychological Services division, facilitates the MS support group -- counseling the members, serving as a resource of information and scheduling various experts to offer assistance and insight.

Caregiver Support Group - February

Facilitated by a geriatric social worker, this is a non-disease specific caregiver support group where people who are caring for others come for support, education, information, and a safe place to talk, share experiences and learn from one another.

Mom's Coffee Club - February

Mom’s Coffee Club is a support group for moms who have adopted internationally. The group is facilitated by a licensed clinical social worker, who is also the mother of an internationally-adopted daughter.

Mom's Coffee Club meets the last Friday of every month at Jewish Family & Children's Service, unless there is a holiday and we're closed.
